Creative writing

Every Friday our class does creative writing, today we had to write about 'the day my brother tried to cook me.'

I'm going to tell you a story about my brother trying to cook and eat me.

It all started one day when my mother and father were out and our nanny was supposed to be looking after us but she had fallen asleep, my big brother James had decided that he wanted to cook the family's meal, so while I was sleeping he picked me up and put me in a large frying full of warm water, he pulled some spices out of the cupboard and dumped the spices on me then turned on the element and waited for the water to boil. 

He had fallen asleep and I had woken up and started screaming for my mother, while I was screaming I noticed my sneaky brother slink off and left me boiling. When our nanny finally got to me she yanked me out of the pot ripping the skin off the bottom of my bum. 

After all this my brother and I were never allowed at home alone again

Pirongia Lodge clearing and planing

On the 18th October room 7 and Pirongia School year 7 and 8s went up to the Pirongia  Lodge to clear blackberry and other weeds and plant a few hundred plants around an out door classroom so that it is surrounded by native bush and is a good place to learn about the outdoors.

when both classes had  gathered up at the lodge we were all told to pick up some plants and take them down to the outdoor classroom, when all the plant were down at the classroom the lodge warden tought us how to plant a plant,"it's  quite simple really, you just dig a hole big enough to fit the plant in place the plant in and then cover the plant with dirt and compact it all down."

I planted a few plant but my main task was leveling ground so that is could be mown. 

Now that we have finished the work at the lodge some other schools might hear about it and then the lodge would get used more often. By the time all the plants have fully grown I could go back and say,"I planted some of these trees."

Ag day

On the 16th of October Te Pahu school had an agricultural day, it was a great day for the students who had been training an animal for the past few months to show it off or to show off student innovation in creating an alternative challenge.

At day is about taking responsibly of training an animal of goal setting in order to get an alternative challenge completed in the time given and make it look really awesome. 

I asked a few student on what there thoughts of at day were and many of them agree that that ag day is a must have for for country schools as it teaches them the basic skills required to become something in the dairy industry.

I asked Aiden on his opinion of ag day and found out that training an animal for him is a difficult job because his lamb was very stubborn training but did very well on ag day.

This year ag day worked well like it should and I hope that ag day will be encouraged long after I leave.

Lower Wiapa Speechs

on the 24 setpember me and a few others from our school comepted in Lower Wiapa Speechs. We all went of in year groups to diffient classrooms, the year 7 boys came with the year 8 boys since it was a small group. after all the year 7 boys had finished the first year 8 boy started his speech his intoduction almost the same as mine, he had copmetly stolen my thunder, I was a bit anoyed about this because his speech was no better then mine but he won. I supose that I can't win everything but I still gave it my best shot.

Speeches

Towards the end of the term our school has had a focus on oral language-speechs. every year our school has a speech contest where you write a speech and then present it in front of the class, and the finals in front of the school. This year I won speechs with my topic on why failure is good for you. On tuesday the 24 of september I will be presenting my speech at lower waipa speechs, I hope to do well there

Market day

On on Friday 13 of September our school society held a market day, a day where all the ventures sold all of the product they had been making. The day was a great success and most ventures sold out and were able to pay back there loans. I wish we held a Mamet day every term, but I think people would get sick of it  

Snow trip

On the 6th of September Room 7 went on a ski trip down to Mount Raupahu on the whakapapa side. Everybody had to have been at school by 5:50 with all their gear ready to be put in cars. after traveling; for about three and a quarter hours when we finery got to the mountain car park and headed; down to the rentals building in happy valley; to get our hired equipment which was skis and snowboards, then to the meeting area to make sure that everyone was there. If you have not skied or snowboarded before now was the time to try to and see if you were a natural or not or try learning. At the start of the day I found skiing really hard, but after my lessons I found skiing a lot easier, after lunch me and Dad went up to the rock garden because happy valley was to easy. The rock garden was a good challenge for me, I wiped out many times before I got used to it. If I was to go skiing again I would try some jumps and some of the harder runs, I had a great day at the snow and would like to go back soon.

kaleidoscope

earler this term our class made some kaleidoscopes using 48 of the same photo, 24 of the photos where origional photos and 24 where reflected. To make the kaleidoscope you hade to make a square using 1 origional 1 reversed origional 1 upside down origional and 1 upside down reversed photo

Prime Minister of Te Maunga Shire

This term our school topic is financial literacy. We have created a little society with a small bank and warehouse, bank manager, warehouse CEO, chief editor of the newspaper, Board of Governors, currency and little money making ventures.
This year I have been given the opportunity to be the Prime Minister of our little society.   It is a big responsibility and includes setting up the market day, issuing food licenses, and making sure the market day runs smoothly.

Pre school reading

Earlier this year our class took on a leadership role and walked down to the local pre school to read to the children there.

The day before, our class went to the school library to choose a book so we were fluent and confident about how we pronounced the words.

The next day we walked down to the pre school and were asked to read to a little kid. We then set off to find a cosy place to read the story.

The hardest thing to do when you are reading to small children is to try to get them to listen, pay attention and look at the pictures.

Stinky fish

Early in term two our class did a science experiment on the smell of a dead fish. We used different household chemicals to see which chemical got rid of the smell. Some chemicals worked but some didn't work at all.

We discovered that dish washing liquid worked the best, closely followed by soapy water and not far behind was tooth paste.

Science fair

In term two our school was studying the material world. We learned lots of cool things about the properties. In the second half of the term our class chose, studied and presented a science fair topic. You had the choice of working with a partner or by yourself.  I chose to work with a partner. Shane and I did what type of water separates the best when an electrical charge was applied.  We did pretty well but the only thing that us down was originality.

Cross Country

On the 24th of May Te Pahu school had their annual cross country.  Everybody was proud about how they competed. If your time was quick enough you would have the chance to participate in Lower Waipa cross country. I was pleased with my perfomance at school and at Lower Waipa, coming 2nd and 3rd.
In a few months time I will be participating in the full primary and all full primary schools can enter a team to determine the best runner for year 7 and year 8 in the Waikato.

Science Road Show

Late last tern rooms 1 and 7 participated in the Fonterra the Science Road Show.
The Fonterra Science Road Show is a combination of learning and cool science experiments and an expalation of how things work.
To me the science road show is very interesting and can help with learning science later on in life. The experiment I liked the most was the hover craft, a hover craft floats in the air because of a downward force created by a fan under the hover craft which makes the hover craft appeare to hover.
The Science Road Show was a great experience and i think it can help with science later on in life

Sketching faces

In room 7 we have been learning to shade, use contrast, gradient and make things symmetical.
I enjoyed sketching my face and I think I came out really well. The bits I found the hardest were making the face symmetical, the eye brows and hair. Next time I am going to try to make my neck look circular.
